Explanation
This is a memorization aid to help you remember which mammals with hooves are odd-toed or even-toed.
- P = Perissodactyla (odd-toed ungulates)
- A = Artiodactyla (even-toed ungulates)
Example: a horse is Perissodactyla. Its weight rests on a single central toe (hoof) on each foot. A cow, pig, or deer is Artiodactyla. Their weight rests evenly on two toes on each foot.
