Explanation
This is a memorization trick to help you distinguish PRINCIPAL (a person in charge, like your school's head) from PRINCIPLE (a rule or belief). The trick is in the ending: your school's princiPAL is your "PAL," spelled P-A-L, exactly like the last three letters of principal. Principle, with no such friendly ending, is reserved for the abstract sense - a rule you follow.
